Top Tips

If you are considering applying to CTC then I hope this might be of use to you! I know before I applied I was worried about plenty of things, some of which I will try to mention here. So my top tips would be:
Application
. Be totally truthful - CTC will check that everything is legitimate, so no cheeky extra qualifications!!!
. If successful in your initial application you are emailed a form with four questions on it. You need to fully answer these questions and again, be honest. If you get to the interview stage some of this may be spoken about. Carefully think about what you want to say and remember to try and keep it relevant with aviation or the attributes of an airline pilot.

The assessment day
. This sounds basic and pretty obvious - do everything you can to be at Dibden on time. Maybe leave so you give yourself lots of extra time, just in case. First impressions are important, after all!
. Try to remain calm. I'd say after the presentation in the morning everyone becomes a lot more relaxed. I just remembered that nobody was there to trick me - they want you to succeed!
. Drink plenty of water. It will make sure that you're feeling your best, despite the fact you have to run to the loo every ten minutes.
. Group tasks - mainly just be yourself. Try not to take over the task, but at the same time don't sit in the corner without saying anything. By this stage you will all be a lot more comfortable with each other, so the this makes the tasks a lot easier. You may be tested on current affairs as well as aviation industry knowledge, so try to keep up to date with everything and maybe try reading some publications such as Airliner World and Flight International as well as various websites (http://www.flightglobal.com is brilliant!).
. Maths test - before the big day, I found it helpful to practise some maths (basic GCSE level). I found that I was completing the sums a lot quicker, which is something vital considering that you have 15 questions to answer in 15 minutes. Expect long division/multiplication/addition/subtraction, conversions, fractions etc
. PILAPT tests - if I am honest, I really cannot think of much here apart from try to get a good night's sleep the night before. Perhaps try to become familiar with using a joystick by using flight simulator on your computer. I would also say that during the test, try not to dwell on any previous errors/tasks and don't be put off by any scores that may pop up. The best thing to do is just concentrate on what you're doing at the time.
. Interview - the final stage is the competency based interview. You're asked about a time when you have done such and such, or an experience which helped you achieve something etc - so maybe try to think of some examples and experiences that you might be able to use in the interview. As well as this, like in the group task they may like to test your knowledge of the aviation industry, so make sure you are aware of what is going on at the time. Try to find out as much as possible about CTC and their partner airlines. You will be interviewed by one of the selection team who you have been with during the day, so you feel pretty relaxed about the whole thing-  just try not to become too informal!

If you get the phone call with the better news, then I hope this helps too:
Between Dibden and starting training
. Try to get everything sorted as soon as possible! There is insurance, contracts, finance, forms, forms, and plenty more forms! The sooner everything is sorted, the sooner you can sit back, relax and look forward to start training for your dream job.

    1. Hi Matt

http://www.ctcwings.com/europe/courses/IntegratedATPL/finance This here should be a good place for you to start looking at the finance involved.

I started training at CTC once I had finished my A Levels, although these aren't always a requirement.

      Hope this helps,

      Georgie

    1. Hi Azhar,

I would say to you choose A Levels that you're going to enjoy! The subjects don't matter, and remember A Levels are only required for some of the courses; if you are interested in one of these courses the grades required vary and the best thing to do would be have a look at the website. The main requirement for CTC Wings are at least 5 GCSEs A*-C including English, Maths and Science.

      Hope this helps!

  4. Hello Georgie,

I'm a woman and I have always had the dream of becoming a pilot. Now I know CTC Aviation doesn't discriminate against women (obviously), but I was still wondering whether or not there are many women training with you. Secondly I was also wondering if there are deadlines, in terms of when you need to apply etc..

    Kind Regards,
    Katalin
